HDPac®
HDPac™ Removable Hard Disk Magazines The MaxVision® HDPac™ is a family of 3.5” SATA hard drive magazines which allow either 2, 4 or 8 hard drives to be managed as a removable set. These magazines can be installed into the MaxPac® X Class, XL Class, MaxCube™ and the TeraPac®3 hard drive expansion chassis. The HDPac™ is available in three sizes. The HDPac™2 supports two drives for redundant mirroring (Raid 1) or performance striping (Raid 0). The HDPac™4 supports four drives for either Raid 5 redundancy or Raid 0, streaming stripe performance. Finally the HDPac™ 8 provides a single eight drive removable magazine. When a drive backplane is present, such as the TeraPac3, the MaxPac® XL Class or the MaxCube™, any combination of HDPac™s can be used so long as they add up to 8 or less drives. For example two HDPac™ 4s or four HDPac™ 2s could occupy an eight drive backplane. Not surprisingly, two HDPac™ 2s and one HDPac™ 4 magazines can fit into an 8 drive backplane. All drives in a given magazine must be the same size to ensure proper RAID performance. Drives may be selected from 160GB, 320GB, 500GB, 750GB and 1TB 7200rpm SATA drives. This provides up to 8TB of raw storage in an HDPac™ 8. Because of the value of the SATA hard drive technology and relatively low price of the HDPac™ system, HDPac™ s using Raid 5 redundancy are an excellent choice for data backup and even archive applications. Because all RAID setup data is storage on the drives within the HDPac™, they can be moved between systems without complications. There is no setup or format issues so long as MaxVision® supplied Raid controllers are used in the host computer. HDPac™ s can be used on any system with an open PCI-X or PCIe x4 or larger slot. It does not have to be a MaxVision® portable system to be of value. Using 16 channel RAID controllers, up to two HDPac™ 8s can be configured. Using two of these RAID controllers would allow up to four HDPac™ 8s providing a maximum of 32TB of RAW removable storage. Configured as Raid 5 systems, this provides 28TB of removable Raid 5 redundant storage. HDPac™ 4 and HDPac™ 8 magazines can be transported using custom water tight transport cases which are designed to allow the units to survive being dropped in the water or dropped onto concrete from heights of over 3 feet. 3 Models - HDPac® Removable Hard Disk Magazines
